Tech EjectTECH EJECT

One of the three walls

You don't have a money problem. You have a rented-income problem.

The third wall of the Beautiful Prison — the one every escape plan dies against, because the math was never actually done.

What the Golden Handcuffs actually are

The handcuffs aren't the income. They're the structure of it: spectacular, and one hundred percent dependent on you dialing in every day. A lifestyle that grew to meet it. Equity that vests next year. Pipeline that pays out next quarter. There is always exactly one more reason the math says wait — which is easy, because you've never actually run the math.

Here's the reframe the handcuffs don't want you to see: everything you earn is rent on your time, and nothing you own pays you back. Until that changes, no OTE is ever enough to feel safe leaving. The number just moves. That's why raises never loosened the cuffs — they weren't meant to.

I engineered my own exit with a parachute I negotiated myself — but the parachute isn't what made leaving possible. Knowing my number was. Five years later the money works for me instead of the other way around, and that arithmetic — the number, the runway, the vehicle — is the same math I've now walked twelve ownership teams through at Electrum Ignite.

How it shows up

Five of the fifteen assessment statements belong to the Handcuffs. Be honest about which ones land.

  • My lifestyle absorbs most of what I earn — a serious income drop would hurt within a few months.
  • I don't actually know my number: what I'd need to have, or earn, to walk away safely.
  • Unvested equity, accelerators, or pipeline commissions have kept me from even picking a date.
  • I earn great money, but I own almost nothing that pays me — when I stop working, the income stops.
  • Money is where every escape plan I've ever started goes to die.

Two or more? The cuffs have you — and the odds are good they're looser than they feel. Nobody knows until the math is real.

What it costs

Every year the handcuffs decide for you, the lifestyle ratchets up and the number moves with it. The cost isn't the money you'd give up by leaving. It's the owned-income years you never start — the engine that isn't compounding while you're busy earning rent.

And handcuff math done in a panic always produces the same answer: “not yet.” That's not caution. That's the cuffs doing the calculating for you.

How it comes down: Phase 3 — The Eject

The cuffs come off with arithmetic, not courage. Phase 3 is the honest math, done in the right order — after you've validated what you're leaving for.

The Guardrail work only tells the truth when the wake-up and unmasking came first. Most people who walk the path in order discover the cuffs are looser than they thought.
